She reached a career-high seventh in February 2016 earlier wrist operation and accidents left her low as 328th.
“I dreamed of this like a small kid so I’m here I’m actually loving it,” explained Bencic, who ended a last-minute wait to improve on her previous best Grand Slam showing of a US Open quarter-final.
Bencic, who had been knocked from the French Open by Vekic at May, got the best of her partner that was hitting now around in a match full of baseline rallies.
Vekic, 23, had her opportunity in the first group, in which she broke in the game but failed to serve it out, with it eventually going to some tie-break, which Bencic took charge of.

The pair shared a warm embrace in the internet and Bencic was convinced their friendship would last.
“We are both professional enough to become friends from the court and aggressive on the court,” Bencic explained. “I think we did so well. I am sure off the court we’re friends ”
